Babysitting Memories

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was reading a thread on how much people were paying for babysitting and thought it would make a great blog post.
I understand the going rate is between $2 and $5 per child per hour.
I would love to read how much you pay by comments.
I made a lot of money in my teens babysitting and I receive a $1 an hour, regardless how many children there were. I think minimum wage was around $3 back then.
So considering inflation, and rounding minimum wage down to $7 for calculation purposes, one-third of minimum wage is $2.33.
Thinking about my babysitting days in high school brings back fond memories.  I had one family with four girls and every time I came to babysit, children from the block would come and play games with me in the yard.
I remember babysitting for a single woman with two handicapped children every Thursday night to allow her time to go our and give her a break from her children.  One of them had to be helped into bed from a wheelchair, but most times they were already in bed when I got there, so I mostly did homework and read while at her home.  I remember that she had Gone with the Wind on her bookshelf and I read the entire book at her house!  I watched the movie later and was glad I had read the book first.
I remember working at McDonald's and getting my weekly schedule at a certain time each week, coming home, and the phone to be ringing off the hook to book me to babysit before my time was taken.
I babysat every waking moment that I wasn't working at McDonald's my senior year of school.
I never spent $1 of the money I made babysitting.  I saved every $1 and that is what got me through the first year of college.
I remember when the children I used to babysit started attending college themselves and how old that made me feel!  Then they started having babies of their own and I felt as old as a Grandma, even though I was not.
Oh we definitely over pay our sitters. We have 2 kids, 3 1/2 and 15 months. If the kids are already asleep when the sitter comes and we are out for 3 hours, she gets $20. If the kids are up and we are gone for 3 hours, she gets at least $30. I like a sitter who plays with my kids and am willing to pay for the one who will. I also want her to want to come back. We don't go out leaving the kids very often, perhaps once a quarter, but I would rather go for quality than quantity in this case.
