Dandelion Christians

Christians should be more like dandelions.

Our sunny yellow faces should be a reminder that simple faith has deep roots that are impossible to dislodge.

Our vast numbers should show the world that even though we are not fancy or pampered, we are evident everywhere, even in the best neighborhoods.

--Janice Kemp in The Women's Devotional Bible

Tagxedo

Many digital scrabbookers utilize Wordle in their layouts.

There is a new ap for tag clouds called Tagxedo and it can also be utilized in digital scrapbook pages. It is quite fun to play with. I made this one by pointing to my blog, but you can supply the words. There are many shapes available, as well as other options. In addition, the images may be saved as .jpg or .png.

Photovisi

Do you need a new desktop background? Photovisi is a cool online collage maker. There are 17 templates available. Just choose a template and then upload your photos. It's that easy!

I made the above one playing with a public domain image I found at Open Clipart. I was going to utilize the image for a post about the gym, but now I have a desktop image to remind myself to get my behind to the gym!

Friendship

Friendship is a priceless gift,
That cannot be bought or sold,
But its value is far greater,
Then a mountain made of gold,

So when you ask God for a gift,
Be thankful if He sends,
Not diamonds, pearls,or riches,
But the Love of real, true friends.

To→done

To→done (link - http://todoneapp.com/) is a fun site to play with, as well as actually use!

You can create a free account and then add the tasks you need to do, as well as the estimated time to complete the task.

When you have some available time, input that time and it will assign you a task to do! It does make you smile.

I could not find it for the iPhone ap, so I probably will not use it, but if I did not have an iPhone, I would probably enjoy utilizing this for at least a short while.

It certainly is creative.

Featured Blog - Words Imagined

Since the last blog we features was regarding word art for digital scrapbooking, I thought it appropriate to share yet another one.

Words Imagined
also has a topic list in the sidebar. When you find an word art you would like to utilize in your layout, simply click the image and you will be taken to box.net where you can download the file.

Thank you Michelle!

Ideas for Today

"There is no measure to the joy you bring to my life." This title seems so simple and yet so perfect, especially for those layouts where no journaling presents itself.

On each photo in the layout, select an area that is the focal point of the photo and put the selection on a new layer. Put a thin border on the new selection. Convert the original photos to black and white. Lock the two layers together. The focal point will be in color while the background of the photo will be in black and white.

Use a grunge frame (tilted) on the layer between the photo and the paper. Make a border around the photo like a poloraid. Possibly use one of the bent frame borders on the photo.

Tilt one of the photos in a slide frame so it appears to be falling out of the frame.

Use label maker words to hold down photos as you would tape.

Tuck photos under ribbons to give them grounding.

Use a fun arrow to direct the eye from the photo to the title and another fun arrow to direct the eye from the title to the journaling.

Tuck a note card with the title under an arrow.

How does the devil see you?

How does the devil see you? Does he see you as a terrifying and mighty warrior of God or does he see you as a wimp he can whip in a minute?

The answer to that question depends on you. The children of Israel failed to enter the Promised Land. The key to their failure is found in these words: "And we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in theirs." Number 13:33

Grasshopper on concrete

If you're not strong in the Lord in your own sight, you need to change that. You need to get so full of God's Word and so full of the Holy Ghost that you walk around like a spiritual giant.

Turn the tables on the devil and let him find out what it feels like to be a grasshopper for a change.

My First Etsy Purchase

I bought my first Etsy purchase and you can see better photos of the bag here.

I did not realize that it was coming all the way from Taiwan! She was awesome and did warned me that it may take one week for her to make my bag and approximately two more weeks for the bag to arrive. It was very hard to be patient, but it was well worth the wait! I have been fumbling about to the gym for three weeks now trying to hold things in my hands and constantly dropping something or another.

I haven't bought anything cute like this for myself in I cannot remember when.

I'm excited!!! My bag from etsy came!!!

My readers know that I recently joined the gym and, therefore, I felt a need for a gym bag. I didn't want any regular "guy-like" bag. If I am going to splurge on myself, I want to feel good about it.

This is also going to be a pool bag, so the fact that the bag is all canvas is important. It make take on a little water, but it is washable and durable.

The last time I bought a bag for the pool was about 24 years ago and I believe it only cost me $3! I think I've gotten my money's worth out of it and can justify spending this money on myself. What do you think?

I'm excited!!! My bag from etsy came!!! Inside.

The quality of the bag is amazing. The outside of the bag has a pocket where I can put my cell phone and keys so that I can easily find them. It feels as if there is some batting between the outer material and the lining, which gives the bag stability for standing upright and adds to the quality.

I'm excited!!! My bag from etsy came!!! Inside.

The inside has generous pockets which are perfect for a bottle of suntan lotion or a bottle of water.

This bag could even be used as a diaper bag.

My netbook also easily fits in this bag, and I'm sure my laptop would also, so it could also act as a laptop bag.

My consideration when purchasing this bag was the size. I wanted something that was big enough for a pair of tennis shoes and jeans, but not so big that I dreaded lugging it around. Now that I have it in hand, I can see that it is the perfect size as I was looking for.

There is so much great stuff at Etsy and my first experience, although a long wait, was very positive.

I have "Likers" -- thanks for Liking Me!

A few days ago Facebook rolled out a new interface with some subtle changes. There are many new changes to Facebook. They continually change it just to keep us alert!

To become a fan of a fanpage, instead of clicking "Become a Fan," you must now click a "like" button.

It is my understanding that the new 'Like' button will have the capability of being embedded on other websites allowing users to share content they like in social networks. Some bloggers (here) (here) are using the catchy title of " Facebook Plans To Take Over The Entire Internet/Web." For techy people, this is a good read to better understand the changes.

So, while some may first assume that Facebook's changes are to make the site seem more personable, the actual goal is geared toward marketing so that people can get more traffic from Facebook.

With this new "like" button on fanpages, another new box was integrated. The above image is the number of friends I have on my Facebook profile page. You may recall this blog post of mine where I reactivated the ID. I continue to get friend requests (which I understand instead of "friend request," it now says "wants to be friends with you") and invites to fanpages and whatnot there, but I do not post there very often.

The above screenshot is from the sidebar of my fanpage. I can now see that only 200 of the 666 friends are "likers" of my fanpage. However, there are 848 people who are "likers" in total of my fanpage. So, I am baffled as to why 466 people prefer to be "friends" with my profile, but not "likers" of my fanpage. Why don't they move on over to where the real posts and interesting stuff happens?

One of the top requested features is a "dislike" button, but we still have yet to see the same.

However, they have added an "unlike" link. To remove a page from your profile, scroll to the bottom left hand column of the page to find the "unlike" link.

To read about other changes, see the Facebook blog (more particularly, here).

Stress

Stress

A lecturer when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked "How heavy is this glass of water?"

Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.

The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it.

If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.

If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.

If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.

In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."

He continued, "And that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on. "

"As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden."

"So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow. Whatever burdens you're carrying now,let them down for a moment if you can."

So, my friend, put down anything that may be a burden to you right now. Don't pick it up again until after you've rested a while.

Here are some great ways of dealing with the burdens of life:

* Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.

* Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

* Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.

* Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their maker.

* If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

* If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again,it was probably worth it.

* It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply be kind to others.

* Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.

* Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

* Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.

* The second mouse gets the cheese.

* When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

* Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.

* You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.

* Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

* We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

*A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Immunity

Give a person a very mild does of a disease and he or she develops an immunity to the real thing.

This can happen in religious life as well.

It is easy to become immune to faith by becoming partially infected with small doses or by exposure to the wrong kind of religion.

Do I need an iPad?

I love my iPhone, but why would I need an iPhone and an iPad? The temptation is great to buy one, but I would certainly want to wait until the second generation comes out.

However, I changed my mind. I bought a netbook. It is much less expensive.

As a person who loves technology and new gadgets, I have also been tempted to buy either a Kindle, Nook, or Sony Reader. However, the iPad will also have the new Bookstore. There seems to be a real battle going on with the eReader and I haven't wanted to commit to one reader because often the books you buy are not interchangeable between readers. I understand the Sony Reader is the most compatible with all formats. The iPad, of course, will have applications for the Kindle and Nook as well as it's own Bookstore.

I have also been tempted to buy a picture frame. I have wanted to take down the photos all over my desk area and just put up a picture frame with many photos for a long time now.

All three of these temptations are expensive.

I learned that the Kindle and Nook (Barnes and Noble) both have PC versions now. So, I can buy books and read them on my new netbook and not have to choose between one or another of the book readers.

I did try buying my first book for PC at Amazon and struggled for days. I learned that not all books available for the Kindle are available for the Kindle for PC. That was a little frustrating for me, but I can only hope that by pressure from the public that this will change in the future. Wouldn't they want to make more sales anyway they could than none at all?

I can easily take the netbook anywhere. I can easily type minutes on it (secretary duties), I can easily surf the web, and it sits on my desk at work and acts as a picture frame.

I am so far very happy with my decision. It has taken away my temptation to spend a ton of money on a Kindle (or Nook), the iPad, and a digital photo frame as I've got all that in one at a lesser cost.

Oh, and I also loaded e-Sword on it. My eyes are getting so bad that I cannot see my Bible any more. So now my netbook is my Bible too. I always have my Bible with me wherever I go. e-Sword is free, but you may also purchase add-ons. I purchased four additional plug-ins quiet some time ago and I absolutely love the program.

A netbook is not meant to do heavy duty programs such as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, so as long as you buy it with the simple intentions of having access for portability, just like the iPad, then you will love your netbook too.

I recorded the below video to share with you a visual and more information about the Windows 7 Starter that comes on the netbooks.

How to Be a Godly Employee

How to Be a Godly Employee

(based on the 10 Commandments)

1. Trust in God only.

Trust in no one but GOD. People will disappoint you. God created you and has a wonderful plan for your life. He is too good to do wrong, and too wise to make a mistake. Let His peace abide in you. (Proverbs 3 :5-6)

2. Worship God only.

Don't make your career, your company, or your boss a god. If you do, you will provoke Him to jealously and will end up fighting Him. In fact, He may hinder you from achieving what you want until you are broken of the idolatry. (Exodus 20:5).

3. Use God's Name Reverently.

Don't swear!! Clean words come out of a clean heart! If your co-workers know that you are a Christian, but they hear the Lord's Name used in vain, or cursing and swearing from your mouth, you will give the appearance of being a hypocrite. (Matthew 15:17-19).

4. Work Six Days and Rest on the Seventh.

Before you beg for more vacation time, ask yourself a few questions, "Do you honor the Sabbath?" God has already given you 52 days of time off that equates to seven weeks. "Are your expectations for work, vacation, and retirement realistic?" By resting one day a week, you can avoid burnout. (Genesis 3:17-19).

5. Respect and Obey Your Boss.

You should respect and obey your boss, because you don't know what it's like to be in their shoes. Plus, your ultimate boss is the Lord. Serve Him faithfully on the job, and He will bless you. However, if your boss commands you to do something illegal or immoral, you must make a stand and obey God rather than man. (Ephesians 6:5-8).

6. Protect and Respect Human Life.

Emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual manipulation, abuses and violence have no place in the workplace... or any place. You do not have the right to use and abuse your boss, co-workers, employees, customers, or suppliers. (1 Thessalonians 3:1-2).

7. Be True to Your Spouse.

If you are not getting the kind of attention that you feel you deserve at home, it's common to seek it with someone at work. Honor your wedding vows by avoiding company romances! They are very tempting, very real, and very common. They are also very wrong and very destructive. (Matthew 19:8-9).

8. Do Not Take What Belongs to Others.

Stealing at work can take many forms. You can choose to steal materials, money, time, productivity , and joy from your employer and others. Do not remove your integrity by stealing. (II Corinthians 7:1-2).

9. Do Not Lie About Others.

Do not fabricate stories about your boss, co-workers, and spread gossip for the sake of company politics. You are here to be the salt and the light, not the pepper and the darkness!! Truth always rises to the surface, and eventually you will be ashamed and rebuked if you lie. (II Peter 2: 10-13 ).

10. Be Satisfied With What You Have.

Contentment doesn't mean that you cannot pursue God-given goals, but it does mean that you are content with what He has provided you with, day after day. Contentment is a rare quality in today's culture, but it is extremely liberating! Materialism, striving for rank , backstabbing, and discontent lead to emotional, mental, financial, and spiritual bondage. (I Timothy 6:6-11 ).

Tommorrow is Not Promised

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, they serve some sort of purpose; teach you a lesson, or help figure out who you are, and who you want to become.

You never know who these people may be: your neighbor, child, long lost friend, or even a stranger who, when you lock eyes with them, you know at that very moment that they will affect your life, in some profound way.

And sometimes things happen to you, and at the time they seem painful and unfair, but in reflection you realize, that without overcoming those obstacles, you would have never realized your potential strength, or your hearts desire.

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of good or bad luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness, as well as experiencing sheer stupidity; all occur to test the limits of your soul.

Without these small tests, whether they be events, illnesses or relationships, life would be like a paved straight flat road to nowhere, safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet who affect your life, and the successes and downfalls you experience, create who you are, and even the bad experiences can be learned from; in fact, they are probably the poignant and important ones.

If someone hurts you, betrays you or breaks your heart, forgive them; for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to whom you open your heart...

If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because they are teaching you to love, and opening your heart and eyes to things you would have never seen or felt without them.

Make every day count. Appreciate every moment, and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again...

Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen. Let yourself fall in love, break free and set your sights high...

Hold your head up, because you have every right too. Tell yourself you're a great person and believe in yourself... for if you don't believe in yourself, no one else will believe in you either.

Create your own life and then go out and live in it! "Live Each Day As If It Were Your Last... Tomorrow is Not Promised."

Why God Allows Pain

Why God Allows Pain

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that?" asked the customer. "Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist.

Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people?

Would there be abandoned children?

If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain.

I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things."

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument.

The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop.

Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard.

He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber:

"You know what? Barbers do not exist."

"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber.

"I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"

"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside."

"Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me."

"Exactly!" affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist!

That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look to Him for help.

That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

Caffeine Week

Caffeine Week Images

The new theme this week is "caffeine!" You can join us in the forum here.

I'm still suffering from the daylight savings time change. How about you? Caffeine certainly comes in handing this time of year.

These weekly themes are really beginning to take off. I am enjoying everyone's participation as they take the theme to all parts of the forum. I'm constantly smiling at the side-remarks and the fast changing avatars!

This week's theme is NOT just about caffeine, but includes any layouts that MAKE YOUR EYES POP. We've already begun collecting quotes and quips in the thread. The fun has once again started!

I've been asked several times about when the "week" starts. Sometimes my weeks around here will be very long. Consider it a "Hummie Week." I do not like to make deadlines for myself because when I cannot keep my own goals, I get stressed and end up quitting the project. I've learned this over the years and prefer to be flexible around Hummie's World. Besides, the anticipation of what the next week will be and when it will be posted keeps it fun! It's just better for me to go with the flow than to be stressed that I am late.

Caffeine Week Images

I took some photos for my layout.
I have to laugh when I think about these shots as I see them in blog posts and in magazines during the winter. It's as if we are to feel instantly comforted and warm by the site of a hot mug warming hands. Does it work for you?

Caffeine Week Images
The funny part is when they take it a step further and put on gloves!

I always look at these photos and wonder to myself how many times I've warn gloves while holding my hot drink. I never wear them indoors and I rarely drink a hot drink outside. Maybe a few times in my life I've had a warm drink outdoors during a camping trip. However, even when I go sledding with groups of people, we always tend to go indoors afterwards to warm up with warm drinks and snacks.

Survivor Thoughts

The previews this week are edited to lead us to believe that either J.T. or Russell makes a huge mistake as J.T comments that he may give Russell the hidden immunity idol. First, this indicates a merge this week. Second, editors always try to lead us to think something in order to surprise us in the end. So, my thoughts are that neither J.T. or Russell will be going, but there will be someone that takes on a ricochet. Jeri is also seen in the commercial and I wonder if it could be her.

As before, I am typing this blog post as I watch the show, so these are my thoughts without reading any spoilers.

I found it interesting that both tribes used strategy in lining up the strongest to weakest players for the first challenge. The benefits of doing challenges done in previous seasons makes the challenges all the more interesting.

Congratulations Amanda! She is the first to be in the game for a total of 100 days as this first challenge is played. That's cool.

I have to laugh a bit as Rupert was bragging on how he was the strongest of both tribes and yet beads of sweat were pouring out of his beard. It should be a lesson for all of us that we should never be so confident. Attitude is everything.

Courtney wins the challenge for the villains! That should give her some leverage when they come after her again for the boot claiming she doesn't help the tribe.

During the Outback meal, Parvati is the fortunate one to sit in the seat with a clue in the napkin and she was super smooth in sliding it into her underwear without anyone seeing. She is very fast thinking.

Parvati shows Danielle the clue right away. It is always important to pay attention to alliances.

We learn that J.T's plan in giving Russell the idol (because they believe Russell is a sitting duck against an all-girl alliance), is to boot Parvati. Why is Parvati is target?

However, Parvati, with the help of the clue, finds the idol right away. We see Russell snooping on Parvati and Danielle, but it is unclear if he sees her get the idol at this point in the show.

Of course, we immediately can see how J.T.'s giving Russell the idol would backfire should they vote for Parvati as J.T. wishes. If Parvati plays the idol, the one with the next most votes would go. If Parvati does not play the idol, she would go home with the idol in hand. I believe this is the first time in Survivor history that someone gives an idol to another player on the other tribe during a challenge.

I am cracking up out loud as Russell says, "Now I don't even have to find the idols"....because the enemy hands him the idol. A moment of Survivor history was made when the that idol was handed over and snuck into Russell's pocket. I cannot believe any of Russell's tribe didn't find it odd that Russell was hugging someone on the other tribe.

Russell shares J.T.'s letter with Parvati which indicates that J.T. would like Parvati voted off. That increased an alliance with Russell and Parvati in trust and then put a target on J.T.'s back for after the merge.

As the vote discussions occur, I cannot help but wonder if Parvati will give her idol to Courtney and then the vote will deflect and hit Jeri. All discussions are as to whether to vote off Courtney or Sandra, but those idols are in play and I wonder if they will be played.

Russell indicates he has had a tight alliance with Danielle and Parvati and then Jeri rolls her eyes. I think she realizes that she was not named as being in an alliance with Russell, but has always felts she was in an alliance with Russell. However, last week no one told her to vote for Coach.

So, Courtney is voted out. Where is the surprise? It certainly wasn't a blindside "wow" moment that the commercials indicated we would all be talking about the next day. Sure, J.T.'s move is one to talk about, but it did not play out into a "wow" moment.

The Vote

Jeri votes for Courtney

Sandra votes for Courtney (and turns on her alliance)

Danielle votes for Courtney

Russell votes for Courtney

Parvati votes for Courtney

and Courtney votes for Jeri

Next week we see J.T. is surprised that Parvarti is still in the game and the merge happens. I am making note that Jeri is now "straddling the fence" and wonder if she will be in a position in the future to be a voting tie-breaker. Often in the past, the "fence walkers" get the boot. However, there has been history where the "fence walkers" have used it to their advantage to go further also. What will she do with the fence in the future?

Scrapbooking Inspiration

Scrapgirls's newsletter had a layout with the title "What I love about You," using journaling strips down one side of the photo listing the attributes. Wouldn't this be a great idea to do for each of your children, or your spouse, or parents, or even other relatives, friends, or ancestors? It might even make a nice mini book.

The second inspiration was a poem on a Christian e-mail. I cannot put the poem here because of copyright, but I can share some of the themes that came to mind when I read it. Make a layout with a title of "Love is" and then journal what love is to you. Is love being needed, or a two way street, or a smile, an encouraging word, patience, unconditional, or just knowing someone cares. Maybe instead of the answer being what people are to you, it may be what God is to you.

God's Embroidery

When I was a little boy, my mother used to embroider a great deal. I would sit at her knee and look up from the floor and ask what she was doing. She informed me that she was embroidering.

I told her that it looked like a mess from where I was, the underside. I watched her work within the boundaries of the little round hoop that she held in her hand.

She would smile at me, look down and gently say, "My son, you go about your playing for a while, and when I am finished with my embroidering, I will put you on my knee and let you see it from my side."

I would wonder why she was using some dark threads along with the bright ones and why they seemed so jumbled from my view.

A few minutes would pass and then I would hear Mother's voice say, "Son, come and sit on my knee."

This I did, only to be surprised and thrilled to see a beautiful flower or a sunset. I could not believe it, because from underneath it looked so messy.

Then Mother would say to me, "My son, from underneath it did look messy and jumbled, but you did not realize that there was a pre-drawn plan on the top. It was a design. I was only following it. Now look at it from my side and you will see what I was doing."

Many times through the years I have looked up to my Heavenly Father and said, "Father, what are You doing?"

He has answered, "I am embroidering your life."

I say, "But it looks like a mess to me. It seems so jumbled. The threads seem so dark. Why can't they all be bright?"

The Father seems to tell me, "My child, you go about your business of doing My business, and one day I will bring you to Heaven and put you on My knee and you will see the plan from My side."

American Idol Thoughts This Week

So, I did not make a good call last week, but I was glad to see that the Judge's saved Michael. That was a good call. However, because of the save, now two will go home this week.

This week is Elvis week. Adam Lambert is mentor "in honor of Elvis." There is just something seriously wrong with that. Elvis was "all man" and I'm not sure, especially from the era he is from, how he would adapt to this in this day and age.

Last week I wrote more about each individual as my introductory thoughts, so if you missed that, click on the "tv" label to find that post.

Chrystal Bowersox sings "Saved" and is playing the electric guitar and letting her hair down. She stays true to herself and performs well as always. I don't hear much new though. Can she manage to get any better than the level she is at?

Andrew Garcia is singing "Hound Dog" which I worried would be a risk, being as it is such a well known song. Adam encouraged him to change it up and I think he did so. However, I have mixed feelings about it. Was it too far from the original?

Tim Urban sings "I Can't Help Falling in Love." It is a smart choice as all the young teens are going to be swooning over him singing the song to them. I like him singing simple with just the guitar. He does change the song up just ever so slightly and I like what I hear.

Ellen compares him to the gradual warm-up to loving a "shot of tequila" and somehow I can relate! She's so hilarious.

Lee DeWyze is singing "A Little Less Conversation." I think his hair is more poofed up than usual and it subtly gives him a new look. I can see a bit of improvement in his performance this week and I enjoyed it. He reminds me of someone this week, but I cannot seem to peg who that is in my mind.

Aaron Kelly is singing "Blue Suede Shoes." It is another song that is well known and sometimes those songs can be risky. I immediately notice that his voice seems deeper and rougher than in previous weeks. He seems confident as he walks about with that "Elvis rocking and swaying." He does well and I can see improvement this week.

Siobahn Magnus is singing "Suspicious Eyes." Her eye contact with the camera is marked. She fits in her "signature scream," but it is short. She takes the song from recognizable into her own realm with her big pipes. I just cannot see myself enjoying the big notes on the radio or loud straight into my ears with ear buds. I do like her outfit and shoes. It's unique without going overboard.

Michael Lynche sings "in the Ghetto." My first thought is that it feels real. Of course, as you may be learning, I always enjoy simple voice with acoustic guitar. He has changed the song up so much that I hardly recognize it from the original, but for some reason, that doesn't matter this time as it usually does for me.

Katie Stevens sings "Baby, What do You Want Me to Do." She is dressed young and fresh to fit her age. She has a lot of soul in her voice, but the head cocking got a little annoying after a while. I do like her, though.

Casey James sings "Laudy Miss Claudy." Casey, I like you a lot, but just don't smile! It comes across cheesy! I know it isn't intentional, but inherited, so just deal with it! Casey once again did not show any improvement. I keep waiting for him to up the ante as he has the skill.

None of the contestants this week blew me away or seemed to rise above the other. On the contrary, none of the contestants stood out as obvious picks to leave. It's anyone's week this week.

****
Off to watch Glee! This is a show I didn't think I would like, but grew to enjoy as the week's passed last Fall. It's a bit corny, but with all the crime shows, dramas, and reality tv that I watch, it is good to watch something with a different air to it for a change-up.

Hug-a-Hero Charity Kit

It isn't often that I share kits for purchase, but I've been following the creation of this collab kit for a while now. You can purchase the kit for $5.00 here.

100% of the proceeds from the sale of this kit go to Operation Hug-A-Hero. This organization provided "Daddy Dolls" or "Mommy dolls" to children of deployed soldiers whose families may not be able to afford purchasing the same. It is a visible, tacit, and if equipped with a voice recorder, auditory reminder that Daddy is here and Daddy loves them.

As I've read through the digital scrapbooking forums, I have seen many speak up about how their family members benefit from this program. Here is a layout that Michelle made of her grandson and he is holding his doll in the photo.

Here are some videos from YouTube which I found that share about this program.

I asked God...

I asked God to take away my habit.
God said, No.
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.
Patience is a byproduct of tribulations;
it isn't granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.
I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares
and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow on your own! ,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No.

I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.

I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me.
God said...Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

This is my Story . . .

This is my story and I'm sticking to it!

With time, women gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room, it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy.

Beginning today, when I look at my rear end in the mirror I will think, good grief, look how smart I am!

After Easter Egg Salad Sandwiches

Lunch - inspired by Craig's Facebook post.

Now, I'm addicted to my egg salad sandwiches every year after Easter!

They are SO easy to make.

I just peel two hard boiled (Easter) eggs and plop them in a small bowl.
Add a squirt of your favorite mustard.
Add a half spoonful of pickle relish.
Add a splot of mayonnaise or similar product.
Smoosh together well with a fork.
Meanwhile, toast two pieces of bread.
Plop the egg salad mixture on the toast.
Top with green leafy good-for-you stuff.
Top with tasty not-so-good-for-you bacon.
Take a bit!

PS. Also good with sliced tomatoes!

iPhone ap - United Parcel Service

UPS iPhone ap

Here is my next iPhone application suggestion! I've so many to share!

When I recently blogged about my new tennis shoes, it occurred to me that I should share this ap.

I was able to track my shoes from my iPhone with the United Parcel Service application.

It is helpful if you have an account with UPS online first before using this app. If you save a tracking online, it also appears on your phone easily as it isn't fun typing in that long string of numbers on the phone. Just copy and paste it first from your confirmation shipping e-mail and save it into the online account first. It will thereafter appear on your phone.

Survivor - Russell has Lost Control

I was asked to blog about Survivor like I did for American Idol. Someone knows I'm addicted to Survivor! I've never missed an episode since day one. I always watch it that night before I go to bed. I used to follow the spoilers closely and that made the show a lot of fun, but lately I just don't have time to follow them.

I really enjoyed the Russell/Rob Showdown. I was rooting for Russell. I have never really liked Rob. His first season he rubbed me the wrong way. His second season, he grew on me, but it wasn't really him, but rather his showmance with Amber that grew on me.

I have ALWAYS rooted for the "fan" good-guy contestants to win, especially in the earlier seasons. As a Christian, of course I wanted the person who held to their word and did not backstab to prove to the world that good could trump bad.

However, it is odd how Russell has changed that for me for the first time. He is the "bad guy," but he plays the game so well, and keeps the show exciting, that I am drawn to rooting for him. Sure, he's cocky. However, in my eyes, he has the right to be cocky. Unlike Coach, when Russell talks himself up, it's truth. The Bible tells us not to be boastful, but for some reason, because it's just a game, it doesn't seem to bother me when Russell is boastful. Now, if he is that way in real life, it would rub me the wrong way. I think this game has softened me a little bit in the "it's just a game" theory.

JT found the idol and Amanda was right there and he was forced to tell her. Candace followed and JT changed his mind and decided the best strategy was to share it with his whole tribe. This may or may not be the best strategy. The immunity idols either put a target on your back or get people to join your alliance.

Last week I had said I was really surprised that Russell was not out there looking for the idol again on his tribe. He may have and it may have been edited out and, therefore, we may never know.

I am noticing that Coach is getting a lot of air time. I always watch for the amount of air time each contestant is shown because I've learned through the seasons that in general, the one leaving is usually the one with the most edited-in air time.

Has anyone every packed up their camp items and taken it to the challenge when they were expecting a merge? I do not ever recall that. I thought the staff usually brought over their gear for them after the merge. They've all played once before, so they should have known how it works. Maybe I am wrong.

I'm laughing at how the Heros have no idea that Russell is running the show on the Villians tribe. They think it is a girl alliance and that Russell and Coach are on the outs. What an awakening they will have after the merge eventually happens.

Sandra is smart! I'm impressed. She has figured out Russell's strategy! Russell will either read her and then target her or actually be bamboozled himself for a change. The whole tribe is getting more air time than the other tribe which is another size that they will loose the immunity challenge. I am typing this before they play the challenge.

Ha! Did I call that one or what! Heros win immunity!

In tribal council discussions, Russell says he is "keeping the tribe together and keeping the trust strong" and then they pan to a view of Coach's expression. Did that not just tell us who was getting voted off? It is either Courtney or Coach.

Oh no! The editing mislead us to thinking Coach would be safe on purpose! Courtney is out and the first member of the jury. So, Russell is now building trust with Courtney who was actually in the other alliance?

Let's watch to see who voted for who. We always do, don't we?

Danielle voted for Coach.
Coach voted for Courtney.
Russell voted for Courtney.
Sandra voted for Coach.
Jeri voted for Coach.
Courtney voted for Coach.
Parvati voted for Coach.

So, only Coach and Russell voted for Courtney. Wow! So, Danielle wanted to vote off Courtney and Russell was against that. Russell came back later and said he changed his mind and was willing vote off Courtney, yet that is not who Danielle voted for. It appears that Danielle went back to Sandra and Courtney and made an alliance when she said "are you guys cool?" So, Russell is now no longer in control. This is HUGE.

Next week we are teased that someone makes the dumbest move yet. JT is shown talking about giving Russell the hidden immunity idol. So, is this going to be a new battle? A Russell/JT Showdown? This is also a clue that the merge happens next week.

Sketcher Shape-ups

You may recall the many shoe discussion on this blog and on the Facebook Fanpage back in February. I have been reduced to purchasing shoes online since I cannot find a local store that sells my shoe size; that being 6 wide.

At that time, I shared a link to a local television stations program called Does it Work Wednesday in which they reviewed Sketchers Shape-up tennis shoes. They can be found here too. In addition, Youtube has many videos about the shoes.

I had always bought Payless shoes. I do not think I've ever paid more than $20 for a pair of shoes, except maybe for a pair of boots. However, with my feet and how they hurt so badly, I decided it was time to finally save up some money to buy an expensive pair.

I had no idea what brand of tennis shoe would be best for me. I received some suggestions to just try on various brands of tennis shoes to see what felt best for me.

So, I recently went to the mall and tried on shoes that were much larger than my size, just so I could try them on. I decided that I did like the Sketchers Shape-up Shoes. Asics were my second choice.

My new expensive tennis shoes are here!

I ordered the Shape-ups online and was so surprised when it took 5 days to go from Canada to Kansas on UPS without a check-in. Surely the UPS truck stopped along the way to rest for the night. I would have thought there were other stops and transfers during that five day period.

My new expensive tennis shoes are here!

I missed the UPS person and had to run to the local UPS office to pick up my shoes last night.

They do fit just like all my other tennis shoes, so the sizing is accurate.

Hubby and I immediately noticed how much taller they made me! Wow, I was even looking straight into hubby's eyes! I think the height will take longer to get used to than the rolling of the shoe.

I have yet to give an opinion on the shoes as I need a good test for them, such as a long shopping trip for groceries. I am hoping that because the heel is up that my feet will be in less pain. It sure is going to take some time getting used to them. I am super-oober excited about them!

They came with a DVD. I think I can do special exercises in these shoes. Just something else I have to find time to watch.
******
So, I did my weight exercises at the gym on Monday night, along with 40 minutes on the bike. Last night I joined my first class. It was an aerobic swimming class and it was nice to be able to chatter while we exercised.

I still have yet to feel the "no-pain-no-gain" at the gym. I need to up the ante somehow!

I got on the scale this morning and I gained THREE lbs! What? Certainly I cannot be building muscle this fast. I'm eating well too. What is up with this!

I rarely gain wait, even through any womanly cycles. I generally stay at the same weight for years until suddenly, overnight, I way 5 lbs more. Yep. And then that 5 lbs. stays there. So I really am shocked at this weight gain. It's a bit discouraging.

Yesterday I had an egg salad sandwich and a few Pringles for lunch. At about 9 p.m. at night I made a large salad with really green lettuce, a cut up tomato, chopped red pepper, cheese, ham, Easter egg (grin), and whatever else healthy I stuck on it. I really don't think I ate that much in one day to gain 3 lbs -- certainly not after exercising too!

One day at a time.

Back to the gym I go!
