You Just Don't Want to Know

My receptionist told me a story, Monday, about her 4 year old grandson,Bryan.

Bryan was returning from Sunday School/Nursery with a rather grim countenance.

"What's the problem, sport?" his mother asked.

"Well", Bryan responded, "We just found out what they did to Jesus before Easter".

In her most tender tone, mom asked," And what was that, Sport?"

Bryan shook his head, looked down, and protectively retorted, "You don't wanna know, mom, you just don't wanna know."

Resurrection Sunday Story Cookies

You need:
1 c. whole pecans
1 tsp. vinegar
3 egg whites
pinch salt
1 c. sugar
zipper baggie
wooden spoon
tape
Bible

Preheat oven to 300 F. (this in important - don't wait till you are half way
done with the recipe!) Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat
them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after
Jesus was arrested he was beaten by the Roman soldiers.

Read John 19:1-3
Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 tsp. vinegar into mixing bowl.
Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given vinegar to
drink.

Read John 19:28-30.
Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His
life to give us life.

Read John 10:10-11.
Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush
the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by
Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin.

Read Luke 23:27.
So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 c. sugar. Explain that
the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us He
wants us to know and belong to Him.

Read Ps. 34:8 and John 3:16.
Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are
formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of
those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus.

Read Isa.1:18 and John 3:1-3
Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet.
Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was
laid.

Read Matt. 27:57-60.
Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF. Give
each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb
was sealed.

Read Matt. 27:65-66.
GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven
overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed.

Read John 16:20 and 22.
On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the
cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Easter
Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty.

Read Matt. 28:1-9.
HE HAS RISEN!!!!!

Scrapbooking Album Themes

There are so many theme ideas for scrapbooking albums. Most do a chronological themed album. However, it is difficult sometimes to go back to do older photos when there are so many of them and setting a goal for a special themed album can be inspiring.

I have done two special themed albums. When I do a special themed album, I create it so that it can be printed through Shutterfly and given as gifts to my boys.

I did a heritage album for them for this past Christmas. The Christmas before last I did a Halloween Custumes Through the Years themed album for the boys. This Christmas I want to go back and gather photos of all of their birthday cakes and make an album for them. I also did all of their scouting photos. I should order that as a Shutterfly book. I had forgotten I had done that!

Try to think outside the box and consider what repetitive theme occurs in those photos sitting in the boxes.

I thought it would be a great idea for us to create a collection of themes in the forum. So I am inviting everyone for the newest QOTD (question of the day) by sharing your ideas in the forum thread.

I will brainstorm here to get us started! Here goes:

  • Chronological
  • Heritage
  • Halloween Costumes through the Years
  • Birthday Cakes through the Years
  • Scouting
  • Wedding
  • Baby's First Year
  • Baby's Firsts
  • Holidays through the Years (i.e. Put all your childhood Christmas photos in one book)
  • Christmas trees through the years
  • Scouting
  • School Years (include events)
  • Child's Artwork (scan in all those art pieces that you saved from your refrigerator)
  • School Awards
  • Sports through the years (i.e. collect all of your child's soccer photos and make one book)
  • Vacations through they years
  • Priceless Treasures (take photos of all those items you inherited and document who they belonged to)
  • Camping through the years
  • Friendship (i.e every wonder who all those photos are of people not related to you in your great-grandparents photos?)
  • Mother's Day/Father's Day through the years
  • Family Homes (gather photos that show each generations homes and where they lived)

Shalom to You

This customary greeting, "Shalom to you," takes on new meaning when spoken by the risen Christ. Think about it: "They killed him, but he's not dead" sounds like the plot of a bad horror movie, wherein the victim returns to take bloody vengeance on all his enemies. So, imagine you're there among the disciples when Jesus shows up all of a sudden. After the gruesome injustice of Good Friday, he's ba-a-a-ack. He has every reason to be angry. Do you suppose he's out for revenge? Don't you wish you had put up a little more resistance? Don't you regret fleeing Gethsemane and leaving him to his fate? And if even the chains of death can't hold him, is there any terrible recompense beyond his powers? But no, he's not angry. He says, "Peace to you."

It Takes Time for Perfection

Toasted cheese sandwich
I have this "thing" about toasted cheese sandwiches.
I like for them to be perfectly toasted - not black at all with a light brown coloring.

I have this "problem" about toasted cheese sandwiches.
The only way to perfectly toast a sandwich is to use low heat for a longer period of time and my patience and time allowance often isn't available to me.

It takes time for perfection.

Whenever I made toasted cheese sandwiches, I am reminded of my Grandma. She made THE best! Now, my Mom normally made the best of everything, but in this circumstance, Grandma trumped Mom's abilities.

I later learned when I was older that it was because Grandma used Velveeta cheese which would ooze out the edges and tasted oh-so creamy and delicious. I've got a mental block on using Velveeta now because I know it isn't "real" cheese and my health-o-meter tells me to only use real cheese. So, I use two slices of real cheese in a feeble attempt to make it oh-so cream and delicious. It doesn't work. Mom always used fake processed cheese wrapped individually in plastic, so at least I'm a step above her sandwiches.

Making that perfect toasted cheese sandwich reminds me that sometimes I just need to take a deep breath and calmly wait without complaining.

It takes time for perfection.

"For it is: Do and do, do and do, rule on rule, rule on rule; a little here, a little there." Isaiah 28:10

It always seems as if I have to take a deep breath to trudge through daily trials. Maybe God is just slowing me down by keeping me from hastily rushing through life. Certainly God as a purpose for all of those times where it seems I am just spinning wheels and going no where. He is teaching me and growing me.

"We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all." Isaiah 53:6

It takes time for perfection.

God knows I am not perfect. He knows I constantly go astray and yet He constantly works on me towards that mark of perfection. Thankfully, God is calm with me as I grow. He has forgiven all of my imperfection -- all of my iniquities--all of my failures. He has laid all of my imperfection -- all of my iniquities--all of my failures on Himself as He bore the weight of the cross on His shoulders.

Reasons the Easter Bunny Brings Eggs

REASONS THE EASTER BUNNY BRINGS EGGS

- Tax write-off.

- Who wants Easter bricks?

- Consider all of the varieties: Scrambled, over easy, hard boiled.

- He gets a good deal from the local chickens.

- Secret plan to eliminate human race by cholesterol overdose.

- Pressure from the Egg Marketing Board.

- Because if it brought bottle rockets it would be the Independence Bunny.

- Would you want to hunt for waffles?

- He thinks there's guys who should get chicks at least once a year.

- Because the Energizer rabbit got the good job.

The Assessment and the Workout

I went to the gym Thursday night for my "assessment." I was weighted and measured. The poor young man that had to do that surely had to be a bit intimidated to have to measure all these fat women that come in.

Then he tested me for flexibility and thereafter gave me a choice of a "strength" test. Since I cannot even do one push up, I quickly chose sit-ups. I could have done more in a minute, but 20 was enough and I didn't want to kill myself for an assessment. I did about 15 in 30 seconds and then he said "25 more seconds" to which I just had to stop and laugh out loud. That was one good way to eat up about 10 more seconds.

Of course, I had to explain that when you are fat, there's this big lump in the middle of your belly that just does not allow you to go all the way up to your knees. The lump of fat gets squished about as flat as it can get squished and that's all the farther up I can go without my knees parting to make room so that my elbows can actually reach my knees. It's a bit embarrassing, actually.

Uggg

I was given a paper with all of my results and if I choose to go back for "after" assessment to compare, I am welcome to do so.

Saturday I met with a very nice young lady to plan my personal workout. We went from machine to machine and tested how much weight was best for me. I was told that I should be pushing myself somewhere between 8 and 11 reps, so I had to figure out at what weight was not too much or too little.

I am always astonished at the amount of weight I can lift. I'm naturally strong with lots of muscles, thanks to my Dad. It's in my genes, which is good for my brother, but not for me as the female counterpart. If I remember correctly, the squat machine's weight for me is 160 (or was it 180) lbs. I did have trouble with lifting up over my head and that weight was rather low. I'll have to copy down the weights I'm at and share them in another blog post.

I've not got a workout plan that I can pick up when I go into the gym, along with a pencil, to mark how many I've done each time I exercise.

Now, I just have to go in and do it!

Template #62

Hummies Template 62 SquarePreview

Yeah, here's another template. Go ahead. Take it. That's about all I have to say about that.

My hearts just not into giving any more right now. The zillions of downloads and no comments. People just coming to grab and go and never stick around or even take a moment to comment. Freebies on this end may end soon unless I can find it within myself again to go forward.

I give and give and give, but sometimes there's only so much in a person to give. Now you can knock me down for not giving with a "joyful heart" as God would have me do. Sorry, I'm still human on the other side of this keyboard.

I like doing this much better for those in the forum who actually complete a layout with the template and post it and give an encouraging word back than giving it away on my blog to who knows who all over the world without any contact.

To see all the people trying to get the last freebie that was linked in the forum and all they had to do was post in the welcome threads in the forum to be able to see those pages in the forum, yet they would take the time to register and not post, was just depressing. It was funny to see what people put in the required field when registering to tell me what program they used. How hard is that? They were so desperate to register and grab the freebie and go that I had to laugh at the responses for that field. I was going to collect them and share the laugh with you, but time got away from me and it didn't happen. It's still depressing.

Yes, the digi-world is so full of freebies that people probably wouldn't miss any if I didn't post them.
This may be the last template you see on my blog...even if it is for only 24 hours. They may just go straight to the Subscriber Area and no where else. I'm burnt out on this. Seriously.

As always, these are in the Subscriber Area permanently (temporarily on blog).

Three Trees

Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, "Someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty."

Then the second tree said, "Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull."

Finally the third tree said, "I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me."

After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree he said, "This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter" ... and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.

At the second tree a woodsman said, "This looks like a strong tree, I should be able to sell it to the shipyard." The second tree was happy because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.

When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the woodsmen said, "I don't need anything special from my tree so I'll take this one", and he cut it down.

When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for. The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end. The third tree was cut into large pieces and left alone in the dark. The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams.

Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time.

Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and he stood and said "Peace" and the storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.

Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.

The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, He will give you great gifts. Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined. We don't always know what God's plans are for us. We just know that His ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best.

Gallery spotlight is on Gail! I'm excited that Dawn has found time to do another spotlight. Gail has been a very active member at Hummie's World for a while now. Come and meet her, leave her warm fuzzies, and scraplift one of her layouts (for those that have the time).

It's all in the gallery here.

Awww....Gail! Thanks for these kind words in the beginning of your interview!

How long have you been scrapping, and what brought you to Hummie's world?

I've been scrapping for about 5 years; digiscrapping for 4. I saw a free tutorial at Hummie's World and loved Hummie's soothing voice and the content of her tutorials. I wished I found her earlier, she would have saved me so much time and money trying to find good digiscrapping software, learning to use it, and improving my scrapping technique.

Amish Friendship Bread

Just received Amish Friendship Bread! On day 2. Should be fun.

Yesterday I received a baggie of Amish Friendship Bread. I've had this before and it is fun to do for a few times. Basically, the bag has some ingredients in it which include yeast. It takes 10 days to prepare the bread in the bag, most often just mushing the bag once a day as the yeast is allowed to grow.

Along with mushing the bag, feeding the mix is an important step.

In the end, the mixture is divided into fourths and three parts go into new baggies (two to give to friends and one to keep for your next batch of bread) while the forth part is baked into a bread.

I've read before some awesome recipes that can be made with this bread, but I am going to make the one that comes with the starter mix. I remember the bread being quiet good, but I will let you know after another 8 days!

Here is the Wikipedia site for the bread. It appears that this bread may not be Amish at all.

All Recipes has the instructions for making the starter if you would like to join in on the fun, but Armchair.com has the complete recipe instructions and variations. As you can see from the variations, this bread can be fun to play with testing variations for quiet some time.

Oh, the Spring Flowers

Here's a few photos and a video from my yard yesterday after work. They are taken with my iPhone, so they are not great, but I just enjoy sharing as I enjoy watching my yard change.

My forsythia bush is in full bloom. What I find interesting though is how you can see in this photo how close our houses are together here in my neighborhood. I'm sure it would freak some people out.

The Silversmith

Some time ago, a few ladies met to study the scriptures. While reading the third chapter of Malachi, they came upon a remarkable expression in the third verse "And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver" (Malachi 33).

One lady decided to visit a silversmith, and report to the others on what he said about the subject. She went accordingly, and without telling him the reason for her visit, begged the silversmith to tell her about the process of refining silver. After he had fully described it to her, she asked, "Sir, do you sit while the work of refining is going on?"

"Oh, yes ma'am," replied the silversmith; "I must sit and watch the furnace constantly, for, if the time necessary for refining is exceeded in the slightest degree, the silver will be injured."

The lady at once saw the beauty and comfort of the expression, "He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." God sees it necessary to put His children into the furnace; but His eye is steadily intent on the work of purifying, and His wisdom and love are both engaged in the best manner for us.

Our trials do not come at random, and He will not let us be tested beyond what we can endure.

Before she left, the lady asked one final question, "How do you know when the process is complete?"

"That's quite simple," replied the silversmith. "When I can see my own image in the silver, the refining process is finished."

************
Another version

Malachi 3:3 says: "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at the next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot then she thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."

She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy --when I see my image in it."

If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has His eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

Fitness Notes

So, I spent three hours at the gym last night.

The first hour I spent riding the bike for a half hour (went 5 miles and burned 129 calories) and then spent another half hour playing around on the weight machines. As I knew, I can easily lift 40 to 75 lbs. I'm not even sore this morning. I am anxious to go to my training later this week and get a set workout with number of repetitions and other details. I am afraid to lift too much weight and get those "man muscles." I'm sure I will need to lift lower weights for a more extended period of time for toning.

Bike!!

I got on the scale this morning and I've gained a pound! What! Okay, I've heard that you sometimes gain muscle weight before you loose weight, but with just two workouts, and most of those two being cardio (1.5 hours of cardio and half hour of weights), I would not have expected that at all.

I have mixed feelings about the gym. In one way, seeing other people exercising for long periods of time makes me want to keep going as long as they do. There was an older gentlemen on the bike next to me and he was really outdoing me and I kept telling myself that if he could keep going that long, so could I. Now, I never broke a sweat and never felt pushed while I was on my bike, but rather was bored of sitting there (although the personal television helps). That's where I think the exercise plan by the trainer will help me. I need some encouragement to push myself.

On the other hand, I feel intimidated by all the people around me. I know that if I am watching them, that they must be watching me. I am so afraid of people I know seeing me exercise this fat body. Now, I don't know why I would be afraid of that, but it must be my low self-esteem problems. Surely they would be praising me (in their thoughts) for being there trying and not thinking anything bad. I wish I were more confident about myself. As I left at 9 p.m. last night, there were fewer in the gym and I began to wonder if I might want to become a late night gym attendee.

I spent the second hour at the gym following hubby around and spotting him lifting weights. I lifted a few myself as we did that "spousal bonding quality time" together.

Then we spent the last hour in the warm "therapy" pool relaxing. I enjoyed chattering with a man that I had met way back in my college days while relaxing in the pool. I couldn't resist getting into the hot tub, but was only in it for a few moments.

I love this cool machine that they have to dry your swimsuit. In just a matter of a few seconds, it sucks all the extra water out of your suit! I've never seen such a thing and am having fun with it. Oh, the simple joys in life!

I did a quick video for you to watch the swimsuit sucking machine at work! (below)

Making a Layered Template Video Tutorial

I have been asked by quite a few people to do a tutorial on how to make layered templates to share out of your own personal layouts.

Although I have so many things I want to do, I thought this would provide me with an opportunity to test more video recording software.

See the video below and let me know if it helps you or if you have any questions.

Irish Wishes...Give a Toast

I love these things...can you tell I'm Irish?!

The bad part about St. Patrick's Day to me is the reference to luck. To me, if you believe in luck, then you don't believe that it was done by the power of God. So, you won't see me posting anything about luck.

Also, Shamrocks with four leafs (four leaf clover) mean luck. Shamrocks with three leafs represent the Trinity.

Wild Onions---Time to Mow!

I have to laugh every time this time of year when it is time for us to mow the grass for the first time, but not because the grass is tall! Oh, those wild onions!

Almost time to mow the lawn because the wild onions are high!

My daffodils were REALLY in bloom this weekend, and then it turned cold and the weatherman was saying the word "snow!" Now that just ain't right!

Lots of daffodils!!

No Good Time Like Now

Well, I have something to share. I done done it!

Yep.

I caved in and bought a gym membership on Friday night. Hubby and I had a long discussion before we did so.
Gym!

I was planning on waiting until May when our youngest graduated, but the more my mind thought about it, the more I decided there is no good time like now.

See, with the boys getting older, it is time for us to spend some money on ourselves. For instance, instead of spending $1,000 a year or more on marching band, now we can spend that on our gym membership.

We did go back on Saturday. Hubby wallowed in the "therapy pool" (which is 92 degrees as opposed to the lap pool which is 83 degrees) and in the hot tub. I actually did cardio exercises with my friend while he wallowed.

I was SO disappointed that my foot could not endure the one cardio (which I have no idea what it is called...elliptical maybe?). I thought since my feet only moved and there was no impact that it would be okay. It took no time at all before the bottom of my left foot began burning.

I was able to do the stationary bike and this other exercise where I pushed my feet forward. I exercised for an entire hour and then went to join hubby in the therapy pool for spousal quality time together. In the end, I went to wallow in the hot tub. I can see me spending a lot of time in there! Too bad the men's and women's hot tubs are separated into the locker rooms.

Hot tub!!

I have two training sessions scheduled. One is Thursday night and the other on Saturday. They are supposed to teach me the equipment and give me a program that is best for me.

I am supposed to be able to slide my card and then go from machine to machine as it tells me how many reps or whatever to do while tracking my progress (miles, repetitions, etc.)

Until then, I cannot do a whole lot.

I did have hubby take a few photos of me on Sunday as my "before" photos. I won't show them to you now though! I'm not brave enough.

I can only hope that I will loose some weight as long as I can find the time to go to the gym. I don't eat bad, but I don't exercise. I am hopeful that raising my metabolism through exercise will be what I need.

I have an account at Spark People (my ID is hummdingertub) and really liked it there, but I just don't have the time to blog there and keep up with the this site. So, I've decided to keep everything in one place and I've started a new label on this blog for "fitness" with this post.

I'm going to need some cheerleaders!

I'm not sure where I will track calories or if I will at all. I can do it at Spark People with the iPhone ap. I'm sure there are lots of iPhone aps for tracking weight and exercise, but I'm going to wait to see what works with the gym's setup, if anything.

So, do you want to guess my weight? Can I be brave enough to share it in public?

Facebook Quick Tip - How to See Things Easier

Facebook keeps changing their interface and making it difficult for everyone to keep up with. With the newest changes which were about a month ago, there is an important step you can take to help make seeing what others are doing and their posts more visible. It's quite an easy thing to set up. It might only take 10 to 20 minutes of your time, depending on how many friends and fanpages you are connected to.

Watch the video to see what I'm talking about. I think it is vital to do to get the best out of the Facebook community.

Start Over

When you've trusted God and walked his way
When you've felt his hand lead you day by day
But your steps now take you another way ...
Start over.

When you've made your plans and they've gone awry
When you've tried your best and there's no more try
When you've failed yourself and you don't know why ...
Start over.

When you've told your friends what you plan to do
When you've trusted them and they didn't come through
And you're all alone and it's up to you ...
Start over.

When you've failed your kids and they're grown and gone
When you've done your best but it's turned out wrong
And now your grandchildren come along ...
Start over.

When you've prayed to God so you'll know his will
When you've prayed and prayed and you don't know still ...
When you want to stop cause you've had your fill ...
Start over.

When you think you're finished and want to quit
When you've bottomed out in life's deepest pit
When you've tried and tried to get out of it ...
Start over.

When the year has been long and successes few
When December comes and you're feeling blue
God gives a January just for you ...
Start over.

Starting over means "Victories Won"
Starting over means "A Race Well Run"
Starting over means "God's Will Done"
Don't just sit there ..............

How many strong guys does it take to. . .

I just ran out of gas 10 feet from gas pump and it took 4 guys to push me

Oh my! What an embarrassing moment I had tonight!

My vehicle had told me all week that my gas take was "low." It usually tells me how many miles I have left to travel, but when it gets down to 30 or 40 miles, it switches over to "low." I only drive about 2 miles a day, so I should have had plenty of gas, right?

I head to the gas station after work today and as I pull in, the pump in front of me is taken, but the one next to it is not. I drove around the car and pump so that I would be headed in the right direction so that my gas cap would be on the right side when this driver pulls in and takes the spot from me.

I began backing up to go back around the first car as I saw he was getting ready to leave now. With the vehicle now behind him, I threw it into forward and it died. I tried to start it several times to no avail.

I opened my car door to tell the nice young driver "I think you just caused me big problems."

"Who, me?" as she points to herself.

I said "Yes, you just took my spot and now my car is out of gas and I'm stuck."

I was stuck about 10 feet from the pump.

I tried several more time to start it to no avail.

So, the lady comes over, along with the guy from the next pump over, and they try to push my car while in neutral to no avail. It was a slight slope they were pushing upwards.

So, another guy comes out from the store and they try to push my car, all three of the back there now. It wouldn't move.

So yet another guy comes out from the store to push it and finally, with four people in the back, some very strong masculine looking men, my car moved the 10 feet to the pump.

It was closer t the pump on the front end than the back in, sticking out precariously into the drive-by. So, I pumped my gas as quickly as possible and then wondered if it really was an empty gas tank. Would my car start? Maybe it really wasn't out of gas and it had technical problems.

I was actually very thankful it was out of gas! It didn't start the first time, but it did the second time. You can be assured that I was out of there as quickly as possible, highly embarrassed!

So, this is how big my gas tank is officially. It hold 18.438 gallons of gas! Hmmm....why not 20? How odd.

So, how many strong guys does it take to move a vehicle 10 feet?

Now, stop laughing at me!

Awesome Example! (Layout Re-do)

There is an area of the forum that is actually one of my favorite areas. It is called "layout suggestions." I would love to see more people utilizing that area. To finish Course 1 at Hummie's World, one must submit a layout for suggestions and then correct that layout.

Some students will take a layout they have already done and then re-do it after reading the tutorial and watching the video.

This is Pammy's layout before studying the lesson.

I thought she applied what she learned so well that I asked her if I could share it on the blog with everyone and she agreed. Here is her re-do. I actually had no more suggestions for her since she did such an awesome job! I want to share with you the design principles at work in these examples.

Most often, the goal in a good layout is that the eyes go to the photos first. If your eyes go to the photo first, then the photos have more visual weight than the other elements. There are eight design principles that come into play that effect visual weight.

1. Contrast - The dark brown paper is excellent for contrast on the photos. The photos really pop. Pammy changed the color of the title font to make its contrast better, yet didn't change it so much that it gained focal weight by being so bright. That was a great choice. Read more why that color choice was great in #3 below.

2. Size - The photos are large enough to keep focal weight and the elements are realistic in size.

3. Color - Color isolation on the apple in the circle photo comes into play on the layout to bring focal weight to the photo. The green leaves are in three places; the color red is in three places; and the color white is in three places -- each forming a nice triangle. The rule of thirds with regard to color is excellent in the re-do.

4. Shape - In the re-do, the circle photo is actually making that photo the focal photo, although it was originally meant to be the supporting photo. The change in placement of the circle to be over the larger photo somehow swapped which photo was the focal photo and which one was the supporting photo. I do not believe it matters which is the focal point, but the eye goes to one photo first and the other second which is what we want it to do.

5. texture - Not applicable in this layout.

6. Isolation - As mentioned, color isolation in the circle photo in bringing focal weight to that photo.

7. Value - The cute apple basket has value, but its size is such that it keeps the focal weight in check.

8. Balance - The before and after is a perfect example of what a difference a center-weighted layout is to a bottom-weighted layout! The bottom-weighted layout is much more pleasing to the eye. The ribbon from the top of the page to the bottom of the page serves to ground all of the other elements nicely.

There are many more examples just like this in the Subscriber Area from past students. As time goes on and more people take the class, this area is becoming a great resource for those wanting to learn design principles to make layouts better.

I, personally, am not artistic at all! I had to learn these principles myself in order to become a better scrapper. I have to think about them each time I create a layout and apply them. It takes time to learn an eye for them, but that is what this area of the forum is for. Don't forget that you can post layouts there anytime.

Thanks again for letting me share, Pammy!

Some Irish Wisdom

Grant me a bit of humor, Lord,
The saving grace to see a joke
To win some happiness from life,
And pass it on to other folks.

**********************************
May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow.
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.

***************************
As you slide down the banisters of life,
may the splinters never point the wrong way.

*******************************
May the blessings of each day
be the blessing you need most.

*************************
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
Slow to make enemies,
And quick to make friends,
But rich or poor, quick or slow,
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward

***************************
May you enjoy the four greatest blessings:
Honest work to occupy you.
A hearty appetite to sustain you.
A good woman to love you.
And a wink form the God above.

**************************
If you find yourslef on a stony path,
may you have strong shoes.

**********************

May you have the hindsight to know where you've been,
the foresight to know where you're going.

***********************************
Always remember to forget
The friends that proved untrue.
But never forget to remember
Those that have stuck by you.

*********************
May you live as long as you want,
And never want as long as you live.

*******************************

Dance as if no one were watching,
Sing as if no one were listening,
And live every day as if it were your first.

******************************

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again,
May Gold hold you in the hollow of His Hand.

What is Life? (Educational Sites Listed at Bottom of Long Post)

What is life for but to constantly be growing closer to the Lord? It is through our trials that this often takes place.

I'm certain some in the digi-land are just waiting for me to post something on my blog about all the recent drama. At one point, I was inclined to do a post about the topic, but as the days passed, I decided not to, but rather decided to share some life application Bible verses that were brought to mind.

I know that there are many people that read my blog because they like that I am "transparent" in my thoughts and that they can relate to me. I tell you though, it gets harder and harder to allow myself to be transparent.

I think it is part of my genes which I inherited to have a strong desire to fight for what is right. Often, I slug things off and don't get involved in drama because to me, it doesn't really matter which side of the fence the egg drops off. I hate drama. However, there are times when issues are important to me and most often they are such because I have a conviction to always do what is right.

To me, not saying something just because I don't want to get into the middle of drama is actually a sin. To blanketedly encourage people to do something that would be breaking the law is wrong and to stand by and let that go on would have been wrong on my part.

I began digging up old posts on "taking a stand" and praying to God to give me an answer. Why is it when I take a stand on something, people immediately start name calling and throwing sludge? Why is it that they feel a need to gang up on me? It's like there is a posse ready to attack me at any chance they get, not matter what it is that I say or how I say it. There is a name for people like this, but for the life of me, I cannot think up the name. I am guessing that's a good thing because if I did, I would be attacked as a "name caller." Sometimes God protects us through our lacking old feeble brains.

Then this verse came to mind and I began clinging on it.

James 4:17 Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.

Certainly it was right for me to encourage people to follow the world's law (of course, and God's law too). So, I kept trying to stay focused on facts while being bombarded with ugliness. I am actually thankful that many people did not see some of the things I saw happening. I wonder what things I did not see happen. I don't really want to know.

I was very appreciative of everyone who was supporting me and praying for me. God has truly sent some wonderful people my way. I was praising God that the people around me were not rushing to gang up with a counter attack. Sure, it would have been nice to have not been alone in discussions, but in the end, I was actually very thankful that the people I hang out with online are they way they are and able to read, let their jaws drop, and just pray, rather than lowering themselves to ugliness. These are the character of people I want to hang around with and God has brought them to this site.

Someone shared a Bible verse with me that changed my whole outlook and allowed me to grow closer to God. I am the type of person that often is strict with obedience, as stated above, always wanting to do what is right. Often, I get caught up in the literal obedience and forget to think outside the box. I am betting that there are plenty of other people out there just like me.

Sometimes it is good to change our focus and stop concentrating on taking a stand and trying to teach others and instead be concerned for ourselves. I felt I was sacrificing my reputation in the name of encouraging others to do what was right by allowing the personal attacks to continue in order to get my message out. I learned that God doesn't always want that for me and that sometimes I need to be selfish and guard myself from harm.

Matthew 7:6 Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.

When is it right to drop out of an unproductive discussion? When those you are conversing with turn on you with contempt and wrongfully tear your good character to pieces, God is surely not pleased.

This commentary refers to "sharing faith" and "we should be generous with the truth unless we encounter someone who shows utter contempt for the precious gift he is being offered." (credit quote to Gregory Koukl) I do understand that Matthew 7:6 is referencing sharing of faith directly, but I feel it also applies to my situation. I have heard this verse before, but I have never really understood what it means until now. Now I have a life application which helps me to better understand the verse.

I had a change of heart and began deleting my posts at DST to guard myself from these people ready to pounce on me for no good reason. I made some changes to the forum to make it more private.

Apparently, my recent forum changes were noticed by those stalking me ready to pounce on me and the Smurfs thread (regarding Mo) was brought up in response thereto. I tell you, I feel intimidated by the stalking, although sometimes it is good stalking, either way it feel just plan weird.

I remember first reading this thread about Moland in January of 2007 and being shocked. There were people making up ID's just to be able to post negative comments about Mo. It was digi-drama at full roar. It is sad that this will forever be a part of digi-history. I never knew the entire story, but I will admit that I tried to join Mo's site and was never accepted. I was not on a CT and did not sell, so I am not sure why I was not accepted. I was trying to join at the time because I felt sorry for her and wanted to know the truth to the matter from her side also and get to meet her for who she really is. Her name is Mo Jackson and her site is here. You don't see her advertising. You don't see her out in the digi world. Yet, her site is still there. I can't help but think she might have missed out on a friend in me simply due to the fear of the digi-drama.

I wonder when I read this story if she too was wrongfully treated and ganged up on as I feel I often am. Twice now in the digiworld, I have had what might be called a rebellion led against me. Is this what happened to Mo? Of course, I'm not saying it is because I know no facts, but I do wonder as I know that it happens in the digiworld as I've seen it happen more than once to several people.

Back when I was very active in a Yahoo Group as the owner, long before this website was even a dream of mine, a person began e-mailing everyone in the group encouraging them to leave the group. I know this to be true because some of the people who received the e-mail forwarded it to me to read. I remember sitting at my computer in shock. How could someone be so, so -- oh, there it goes again -- I cannot think of the right words to describe this behavior.

The issues stemmed from my trying to keep the group free of CT layouts and people not respecting my decision as group owner to do so and, therefore, in turn, began reacting in such a way that it really was mind-boggling for me. In addition, my gut feeling also says to me that the person who brought this uprising against me was also competitive in spirit against me. She had plans on opening up an educational site and, since I had been posting free written tutorials, thought my plans were the same. At the time, they were not. I was truly just wanting to help people because I enjoyed it.

I think this competitive spirit has existed all these years. I see it time and time again where it is posted "Hummie's World is great for learning, but" and then goes on to build up her own site. Then I am told "I always tell people about your site." Yet I never get anyone coming to my site saying that she sent them to me. Sure, she tells people about my site, but it is usually a preface to building up her own site. This is just not my style.

Many people tell me I do not charge enough for what my site offers, once they get into the depth of the site. I run into it time and again how people do not realize what my site has to offer. I think that is because I'm just not good at talking up myself and my site. I have too much fun finding great links and sending people everywhere else. That's why most people follow me around the Internet. They like what I share. But I guess I don't share enough about my own site because people just don't seem to know what is here. This is the way I would rather have it anyway.

I'm not here to make large amounts of money. I do confess sometimes I cannot help peeking to see how many subscribers there are, but most often, I try hard not to look at that at all. I am here to help anyone that comes along. I am often stuck on instant messenger helping complete strangers for absolutely nothing. I enjoy doing that.

Not too long after I opened the forum, another rebellion was brought against me for the very same exact reason! I had been continually tweaking the site trying to choose how to best handle CT layouts when it rubbed some people the wrong way and I sat here one night watching them PM people through the forum and then the next day the forum suddenly went dead. It was a few days later when I was following link backs to my site from other sites that I stumbled upon a forum that had been created by and for the people rebelling against me. PM's at my site were used to encourage people to leave my site and join the new forum.

So, amazingly enough, the very same thing happened to me twice, but in different ways.

These people who led the two rebellions against me were some of those involved in the recent digi-drama. I sometimes pray that other digital scrapbooking site owners do not have to suffer through what I went through with these people. Their character types are such that I fear it will happen again to other unsuspecting good people. I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. I sometimes wish I could shout it out and warn others, but that would not be the right thing to do. So, all of this proof I have sits here in my folders. I sometimes think about deleting it as a way to heal my own hurts caused by these people, but somehow I cannot hit that delete button. My conscience won't let me. Even now I have not given names, but only share a few circumstances. I just cannot do that to anyone, even if they deserve it.

I should have the right as owner to make the rules regarding CT's. I know there are plenty of CT layouts posted in the gallery right now, and that is fine, but they are all posted without being shoved in our faces as many CT layouts in other places feel. They are posted just as the rest of the layouts; that being as part of the community and in doing the challenges. This I am fine with, but I do not want my site to be a site where CT layouts are dumped and the person never participates. I can really tell in what attitude CT layouts are posted when it is for marketing purposes only and that always rubs me the wrong way.

I remember Mo offering the first realistic box elements and everyone being upset that they could not purchase them. That's when other designers began offering them. Mo is infamous for choosing her customers and not allowing some people to purchase her products. There are some discussions in the DST thread regarding what went on before I became aware of the drama. For me, I don't know what to believe as I didn't see anything prior to this thread. Apparently she accused someone of copying her ideas and then someone else accused her of using something in her kit. There's probably truth to both, but there's probably inadvertent reasons for both also. Who was unreasonable in the arguments regarding those issues? Since I never read them, I have no idea. Was she unreasonably personally attacked as I feel attacked sometimes?

I applaud her for being bold enough to not be out commercially advertising her site and just enjoying the people that she enjoys being with. I wonder sometimes if this is the course I should also take. Sometimes I get the urge to close down my site to Subscribers only and never visit other scrapping sites, but then again, there are so many non-Subscribers that hang out at the site that I enjoy being with too.

I made some changes to the site during the last few days. Now only those that have posted once have access to view the challenges, chatter, and resource threads. I may make additional changes and only allow those who remain active to view that area of the forum. I'm not sure why it feels safer to me because in reality it is not much different than before. Anyone can register and have one approved post right now and it will look just like it did last week. I'm not really turning away people, but I am making them take action to be active before they are able to see all threads.

I know when I first started scrapping, Jessica Sprague's site was this way. She had a few threads that anyone could post in, but if you took a class, you could see everything. I've always wanted to see it, but never have.

I think about these sites that are set up more private sometimes and wonder if I should just put up shield and do the same thing.

Speaking of other education sites, I have always heard nothing but great things Jessica Sprague and her classes and Linda at Scrapper's Guide. I have always wanted to sign up for something at their sites, but purposefully stay away for the reason that I do not ever want to be accused of copying any of their great lessons. I would absolutely try out these classes if I were not in the position I am now. I would love to get to know these two ladies better, but they seem so distant and unreachable to me. By this I mean that they would never communicate with little 'ol me. I think it would be fun to plan an activity together with them, but somehow I feel that would never be. These two sites were in existence before I ever started digital scrapbooking and have stood the test of time.

I know I put something on my Facebook page recently about how Jessica had begun a store and that I was frustrated because I was getting too many e-mails trying to get me to go to her store. They were daily e-mails. I do not know if she read my post or not, but since that time the e-mails have reduced and I am grateful for that.

Renee Pearson is another one that I would love to get to know, but am afraid as an education site owner to approach. This lady is raw natural talent and is even well respected in the paper scrapbooking industry. Her site is so professional looking. I wish I had the time and money to create a site like hers.

ScrapGirls is also another leading site for digital scrapbooking lessons.

For me, personally, not only do I not attend these sites because I have a site of my own, but I simply cannot afford these classes. That is one reason why I keep my own site so inexpensive. I want as many people to be able to learn as possible. Even with my low price, I continually get people who tell me they just cannot afford it. There are many people on disability or unemployed or retired with fixed incomes that just want to learn this hobby. Sometimes I sit in wonderment that they cannot even afford $5.50, but then again reality of life hits me as to the impact of this truth. So, my site may not be as I would dream it could be all fancy, but it is here in hopes that it will reach more people. This often backfires on me as people think that since the site is so inexpensive, that it must not be worth that much. This is something I just cannot worry about.

Kayla Lamoreaux runs Digiscrap 101 and I highly recommend her free site also. I sometimes see her as just like me in that she just wants to help people learn this hobby. What she has done for this community is bigger than some may realize.

I know that when I first started scrapping, many of us turned to the written tutorials at Digital Scrapbook Place (DSP) and they are still a wonderful resource. The same applies to Scrapbook-bytes free written tutorials and Scrapbook-Elements.

Kristi Wood has "Classes by Kristi" and is, I believe, readying Digiscrap Campus for opening. She has been around the digiworld for a while too and I am anxious to see what she will have to offer the community.

There are also lots of video tutorials on Youtube.

I even have a link list to lots of sites with tutorials. I always have. I have always tried to link people up with good resources to learn. I think it needs updating though! I am betting that many of these are no longer good.

So, did you read this entire long post? It took me forever to write, so I doubt it.

Have my enemies read it and found something to use as amo against me? Have people read it and judged me as something or other. These are the dangers of me being so "transparent" as people keep telling me I am.

Is this professional? Probably not. You don't see the top educators blogging like this. But I think this is what makes my site unique from others and some people really do like me for who I am.

Most importantly though is that God loves me for who I am.
