Facebook -- this is why.....
This is why I am never encouraged to log into facebook. With 448 scrapbooking friends, the contacts all consist of tons of application requests, tons of advertising e-mails from groups, and yet no one ever writes on my wall. Now why would I want to go there?
Plus, everyone is closing down their "groups" and trying to send e-mails out to get people to move to their "fan page," which is getting annoying.
I have a fan page. No one joins. Why? It is harder to invite people to fan pages.
I have a group page, but no one does anything there. Why? Because I don't know what to do with it. There is even one for Missouri Digital Scrapbookers.
I just go to Facebook to accept new friend requests and clean up things. Whoo hooo! Yeah right.
I love to TALK to people on the wall! So talk to me. I bet know one does.
When I used to have my Twitter syncing with my Facebook, occasionally people would comment. However, I took off the sync because it allowed me to just chat freely on Twitter without worrying about what it looked like to people on Facebook.
I have my blog posts synced with my wall, but no one comments on those. Maybe I should unsync them? Maybe they are annoying too?
I think that Facebook and Twitter are just INFORMATION OVERLOAD! If I spent all my time watching what everyone else was thinking, I'd never get anything done!

I just started my Facebook when I read this post. I am glad to hear your opinon. I really don't have extra time to spend there. ;o)
AMEN! It's so true ... ;) hard to believe I took time to comment now ... there is so much to say, & do, & read - argggghhh
Amen Sister! I deactivated my Facebook page after 6 months because I got just as frustrated as you. I haven't joined Twitter for the same reason... I see it as nothing more than a time waster. Still, so many people are FBing and Twittering I feel left out of things. People say these sites are all about social networking but to me it looks like nothing more than games and details I don't care about (so and so just joined X group, uploaded a new profile picture, or changed their "likes"). Yeesh!
Don't get me wrong, I like to stay in touch with friends as much as the next person. But once a week or once a month is good for me. I don't need to know what they're doing 24/7! LOL!
I LOVE Facebook and have really enjoyed connecting with many old friends there, as well as some new ones.
The application invites really annoy me too. I am glad they added a new feature that allows you to block invites from certain people (the ones who invite me to EVERYTHING) or from certain applications so that you don't receive any more from those particular people or apps ever again. That has cut down on my application spam a TON and now I rarely get any.
i've opted out of almost all apps. i just do communication things. (i do like networked blogs tho...am going to pay a bit more attention to that in future.)
facebook has helped me to become better connected to people even in my own town!
Hummie,
I just read this, and wanted to share, that I don't see your blog posts showing up on your facebook, or at least, not on my feed! I just went and they are on your profile . . . very weird. (probably me just missing it with the new facebook setup)
I liked your twitter posts on FB, since I don't check my twitter very often, and found a lot of fun stuff with the posts!
Good thing I have you in my reader still! :)
oh,Miss Hummie I totally agree with you. Facebook and Twitter are not very good tools for advertising our digital creations for selling. I remember even fighting the fact of starting a blog, and even farther back from that was the chatting in forums on digi sites. My personaly feeling is people waste so much time "networking" that they don't really have much time left in the day to enjoy the sunshine, have a friend over to tea much less use these tools for what they are started out to do. Don't get me wrong I love the comments that are meaning full and thanking someone for a awesome hard work and time they put into something they want to share with others they did on something or for the freebies that are flooding the market that it does make it so hard to sell a darn thing. BUT I think that everyone is just fighting for attention which doesn't leave much time that there is no time left in the day to really use these tools for what they were start out to do.
I have to say one more thing that is very upsetting is to give out a mini kit on your blog for free, have over 2000 downloads with one 5 or 6 comments. It is sad that people can go to all these networking sites and tools but can't thank a person for their hard work and sharing it with them and have to beg for the freebie grabber to "leave some lovin".
(stepping off my soap box!)
I do have to say that I so enjoy reading your blog and topic which you blog about as they are always useful tools to scrapping or photographic information. AMEN to you bringing up this topic and I hope that at least all your followers would stop by and thank you for all the VERY USEFUL INFORMATION you do share with all of us in scrapland.
Hugs and much apreciation

Hi Hummie- Boy do I hear you, on all that stuff people send, to play in and join on facebook.
I'll answer, if I get the message on email....
or better yet...
email me or send a pm....
as everyone I know...knows how to find me.
Michi
I dont have either of them. Thanks for warning me before hand. With my Personal blog and my store blog and my store Sugar Mama Scraps, my family and all that goes with it...I'm busy enough. I gotta keep up with you too. Love it here Hummie. :)
Hi Hummie,
And I totally agree with you on FB. I got talked into starting with it about 2 months ago, and it took all of about 3 visits when I realized that I didn't like it at all. Some of them are only trying to see how many people they can find, how boring their life must be if they have to find out who is doing what at what time. I stayed very secluded and only invited 2 friends, but I found that they can invite and all write on the wall and then I'm seeing all the other garbage. I haven't visited since, and will probably just put an end to my site sometime in the near future.
I have seen your blogroll on the bloggers site, have come to browze around and like all that you have done. This is far more interesting even though I don't participate in a lot of things and haven't in any of what you have, but at least you have things to do and make that people can learn by.
So, I guess that was just a vent about FB, but I couldn't help but agree with you. I have put myself as a friend to your site, and hope you don't mind. I also have my own blog site, and don't even talk about scrapping on it, but just posts that I know people that I know would be interested in. If you want to drop by and take a peek you are most welcome, would also love to have you as a friend if you do decide to visit.
Gotta' leave, just wanted to say "hi" to your very inspiring answer. Bernie
