A Fast Way to Get Me to Leave Your Blog

Why are SO many bloggers using FeedJit? I absolutely do not like arriving on someone's blog only for it to say where I live and where I clicked from to get to the site.

It is certainly one of the fastest ways to get me to leave your blog. Sure. I'm aware that other applications provide this information in reports, but who needs to have that for public information for all to read right there on a blog sidebar?

If it makes me feel this way, I wonder how it is making others feel.

6 WARM FUZZIES--comments SO appreciated!:

I have never even heard of it! Glad this was not a digi world drama, I was afraid that was what was going on. So glad to not find drama :) I won't do FeedJit so not a problem! lol

Y'know, it makes me feel vaguely uncomfortable, too, and I'm not normally very secretive online. I will admit to being very curious about other visitors, though, so maybe that's why I'm uncomfortable!

Hi Hummie,

I'm Feedjit's Founder and CEO. I found your blog entry through a google alert I have set up for Feedjit.

We haven't had much feedback like this so I thought I'd introduce myself to find out more and see if there's a way we can address your concerns. Feedjit is used by a huge number of bloggers across the Internet in over 200 countries and we work closely with the community to help shape Feedjit.

Right now we give you the ability on the Feedjit widget to request that Feedjit ignores future visits from your browser. We're also considering a feature whereby you can immediately delete your own location from the widget on the blog you arrived on.

That way visitors to websites using Feedjit have full control over their privacy and can choose whether or not to show themselves.

Would a feature like that address your concerns?

I'll check back on hummiesworld for your feedback or you can email me privately at mark@feedjit.com.

Kind regards,

Mark Maunder.

I love this feature on my blog. I love to see who has visited me, and from where. I'm always amazed that someone from the other side of the world would have an interest in seeing what I have to say or what I have created. I'm sorry you feel this way, but I find it hugely informative.

I've seen Feedjit before and thought it was kind of cool. I've added it to my blog now and can't wait to see the outcome. I like all the varieties of blogs and journals. I learn alot that way. I'll let ya know what I think of Feedjit. :)

Y'know, you can find out all that information about who visits your blog by using a sitemeter, and then it's just your eyes that see the information, and not everyone who visits your blog. If I were trying to preserve my anonymity online I would be annoyed to have my location so blatantly displayed. And the unfortunate thing is that it's opt out, not opt in for the blog visitor.
