Hummie's Basics - Iron Arrows Freebie

Here's the link...at the top of my post, for all those freebie grabbers. Go ahead, grab it and get out of here.
If you want these iron arrows, be sure not to download the ugly thumbnails, but rather the full size originals. Read the instructions here.
Yes, I have an attitude problem this morning.
I feel like giving the whole world a lecture. I am always wondering what the world has come to when so few even bother to take a small moment to leave a comment to say thanks. Why have we become a world of grab-and-go? Why is the world all about me, me me?
My comment settings do not require you to be logged in (either here or at Fotki) and I do not make you do the word verification, so I make it easy, and still only about 6 people out of hundreds left me a thank you with my last freebie.
It seemed to me that I got many more comments using 4shared and people will leave a comment that way where they will not leave one any other way. Why? Why is that?
I do not share to advertise to get you to buy my products. I do not sell. I share because of the joy of sharing. I just love giving to others. However, if I do not get any feedback, how do I know you like what I give? It just zaps all the joy out of it for me.
I am really close to stopping this freebie giving. There are other ways I can spend my time giving of myself.
There are so many people out there giving freebies that I guess if I stop, I won't be missed.
Then there are the people who make those who give freebies feel guilty for asking for comments. How many times have I read people say that they are tired of reading a request for comments. These people need to sit on the other side of the fence in the other person's shoes. It is very time consuming to create items and upload them and share them.
I rarely ask for comments as it just feels wrong to do so, but it really isn't wrong at all. What is wrong with society that they think it is wrong to want a little thanks or feedback? Yes, yes, I know, we should do things without expecting anything in return. Is it so wrong to expect a thanks in return? Why are those who give freebies made to feel guilty for expecting a thanks?
I bet back at the turn of the century it was commonly known that not giving thanks was wrong. I can see in my mind the dialog in movies. It was very unexceptable. So, why the push now to make it exceptable?
Each person should take a moment to look into their own heart and decide what kind of person they want to be. If you have not been leaving comments, then make a choice to change now. Make a commitment to never download without leaving even a one word "thanks." If you don't have time for that, then I shake my head in sadness for what the world is becoming. It makes me fearful for my grandchildren and my great-grandchildren.

30 WARM FUZZIES--comments SO appreciated!:
I'm sorry that you are so upset. I don't blame you though, people can be so rude and unthinking today. I do try to make sure I leave a comment if I download a freebie or just see something that is interesting.
It does amaze me though at how many people neglect to say "thank you", "please", etc. Just simple everday common courtesy seems to be gone. It's so sad.
I've got the same feeling about the silent people on 4Shared, it is so sad, I'm sure those people wouldn't leave silently in "real" life, why are they so rude on Internet, I don't know, freebies on my blog help it to get more visits, last time it was because I was doing a CT call, but I won't do it much now, it is really not interesting. The arrows look great and I still love reading your articles much, thanks you for those articles I learn a lot!!
Hummie, my name is Deb P and I want to apoligize to you for not taking the time to say THANK YOU!!! from the bottom of my heart. We (I) needed to put back in check to stop and take a few seconds and remember our (MY) manners. I get to flying to each of my favorite sites, like Christmas morning and forget to leave a thank you. I will do better from now on! THAN YOU, again and I do love your stuff or I wouldn't be checking you out, but it would help you nowing our thoughts and such. Hugs to you, Deb P
Thanks Hummie,
ditto previous from anon, I confess I'm just as guilty, please accept my apolgies. Your designs are wonderful kits and great templates. You ARE appreciated
Janet
PS do you have any plans to put your boys band back on your blog, they are great, I miss them
I have wanted to write a similar rant before. I teach my children to say please and thank you. How can I expect them to do it if I don't. Sometimes I think people think that they don't have to use manners just because people can't see them. We know they were there because of the number of downloads. Hopefully, your rant will make more people think about their manners.
I, like some of the others here needed to be put in my place, and I'm sorry for needing it. I don't think it is intentional that we (I) don't use our manners, we just seem to get so wrapped in our own lives and the hurry that accompanies it. There is no good excuse. Please accept my apologies. I love your blog and come here often, there is so much that you have here of interest! Thank you, thank you for being so giving
I am sorry that you are upset, but I cannot blame you. Everytime I download at the very least I say Thank You. I try to write more if the "spirit moves me" or if I'm coherant enough to put more than 2 words together-lol. Keep up the beautiful work!
I believe more people leave comments on 4shared because they do so while waiting for the file to download.
Thanks for all the arrows; they will come in very handy.
You are absolutely right. I am also guilty of downloading in a hurry and not taking the time to leave a comment. Believe me, I do appreciate the time and effort spent designing the freebies; but how do you know that if I do not take time to comment.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for the wonderful "thing-a-ma-jigs"! Love them.
We have become a "take & go" society overall, gimme what's mine. It's a sad state of affairs.
Thank you for your kindness, talent and generosity.
Many blessings - Hugs & Smiles from FL
D :)
I agree with you Hummie. I never realized how important comments were until I posted a freebie and waited for the comments. We are all in such a rush these days that we tend to forget those around us which is so sad. Thank you for the lovely freebie and all you have contributed to thescrapping community.
This is my first time visiting your blog and I just wanted to say thanks for the freebie!
Sorry you don't get much love. I don't think people mean to be rude and not show their appreciation. I just think in general everyone is always in a rush and they just don't take the time.
Love the arrows! Hope more people take the time to show their appreciation!
Hummie, thank you so much for sharing your great talent, and the instructions on how to download and use the arrows was wonderful.. Hugs..
Thanks so much for the freebie!!!
I appreciate your efforts!!!
Brenda
Love this rusted look! Thanks so much!
I really do appreciate all your hard work and caring enough to share with all of us......THANK YOU and take care
Janet
Hummie, I havent had the chance to download any of your freebies yet, but I do come in here everyday to read your posts and thats because they are always so interesting. You were the first one to visit my new blog when I started and I know I didnt say it then ..But Thank you for that and for your wonderful posts. Consider yourselve HUGGED for the day!!!
Ohhhh I love how you said this!! I so agree with you, and get tired of asking for comments on my freebies, yet figure if I don't ask, I won't get ANY...I am always greatful for the few I get, but always wonder how there can be so few, compared to the number of downloads! I think I'm going to go back to the bottom of the post I just made with a freebie, and post a link to this blog post, I hope you don't mind! It says it all for me! LOL Thanks so much for your freebie, but most of all, thanks for what you said!! :) I think people are loosing the ability to be courteous these days...or maybe they just figure they don't have to be online.
Hummie, these arrows are WONDERFUL! I need to get back on my "fun" computer so I can grab them. But the textures and colors within them are superb! Thanks for making them.
this was the first time i have ever been to your blog to grab a freebie, so i wanted to thank you for that...i read what you wrote and it is sad...i also saved your feed to my reader so that i can visit you back in the future, i hope you decide to continue the freebies...
Thanks
Actually - it's a recognized phenonomen that people will say and do things on the internet that they wouldn't dream of doing in person - and I assume that means taking the time to say thank you as well. I maintain a genealogy website so I have been encountering this problem for years! there are actually physcological studies that have been done about this problem (*CAN* you believe!?) Once in a great while I get some feedback from someone about the info I have put up on my website that makes it all worthwhile; I can only hope that you do, too. I enjoy your craft - and I thank you for sharing it!
Yesterday was the first time I've downloaded from your freebies, and I have to say they are very nice staples! And the arrows are great too. I'll be using them for sure. I'm new to all this so please forgive those of us who are not quite up to speed with proper thanks!!!
I love the iron arrows - thank you very much!
I too leave at least a little thank you 'cause I know I get disheartened when I've worked on something and get not even a little acknowledgement in return. I've read people prefer to have comments on their blogs instead of 4shared...others don't care. So, what is the general preference? I'd prefer my blog...what's yours?
Hummie, When I was still new to digi scrapping world, I'm one of those people who grab and go. Never realizing how designer's spend their time creating those lovely kits. But things change, when I started creating my own kits and sharing it to others. A little thank you won't hurt anybody. I think we(designers) need a lot of them so we know what other's think of our work and to have them is like waiting for a star from the sky to fall down. I pity those people who until now never realize how lucky they are to recieve a freebie from someone. there are so many things to do besides making freebies.
Dear Hummie, as they say in the English Parliament: hearhear! In the last few days I noticed freebies that 10, 15 or even 25 people had taken, yet no one had even said thanks! I couldn't help to leave harsh comments - my DH says I'm becoming a true Dutchie: opinionated!. I am a novice at digital scrapping (still reading the book for dummies, LOL) and only recently found out that there are talented designers sharing their work and write tutorials. I take great advantage of your/their generosity and knowledge. It gives me the opportunity to experiment with different styles and to see what works for me. I appreciate this so much and it upsets me that so many people just "grab and go". I am sure our parents tought us better and I hope your entry is a wake up call for everyone!
Hi
first time here, but agree so much in waht you're saying. As someone else has written here, we teach to our childrend to say "thanks", so why don't we do the same?
***thanks***
Hi! First, I want to tell you that I am loving these arrows!! What great textures & realism! Thank you so much for sharing them! Second, I must confess my guilt! *hangs head in shame* I DL your templates the other day, and I don't think I ever came back to say Thank You!! I am so sorry!! I get easily distracted by my two kids (1 & 2yo) and when I get a chance to come back, I forget what I was doing! Not an excuse, though! My mother taught me better than that, and I am truly sorry! Thank you for all of your hard work and your creative talent that you share with us!! It is appreciated! :)
Thank You For the Freebie. Your Work and talent is very much appreciated by us all.
