Do Color Trends Affect Digital Scrapbooking?
From my understanding, interior decorating color trends can be forecast based on the clothing industry and runways.
Do you think that these same trends also affect digital scrapbooking and the designing of kits and trends in layouts? Do designers ever take note of upcoming trends before they choose a color palette? Or do they wait until they are influenced by the market of clothing and interior paints?
Deborah Zimmer from Rohm and Haas is known for her on-target color trend predictions. You can read her article on the 2008 color trends as she predicts trends for .....
“Go Green” (Mid-tone hues of fern, palm, pine and sage; coupled with clear blue or aqua; sandy tan and adobe brown intermingled)
“Sophisticated Elegance” (black and white; Silver metallics and high sheen; dramatic red ; subtle pink or taupe)
and “Crewel Colors” (Rich cranberry reds, warm browns, along with pumpkin orange; Mix in deep-toned blue and the tapestry)
You can download these images on their site and utilize them to create your own color palette for kits. I personally like all of these color trends, both for clothing and interior decorating, as well as layouts.
Another great site to keep up with color trends is Fashion Trendsetter. This color palette is their indicated trend for the Autumn/Winter 2008/2009 for the fashion world. You can see these colors expanded on their website. Except for the bright pink, I like this color palette. These colors seem to me to be in line with Ms. Zimmer's colors.
You can visit their site to get past season's palettes as inspiration for your kits.
Who else feels as if they "predict" color trends, but what they are actually doing is "setting" them for everyone else to follow? ...giggle.

7 WARM FUZZIES--comments SO appreciated!:
This is a great list Hummie, many thanks, I especially appreciate the Color Trends site it's fun :)
Holy Moly girl how do you do it??? Those are some super links, thanks for posting them!!
Many thanks for the post and for this huge amount of colour resources, it's really informative and surely useful for any layouts or many other projects. :)
Best wishes.:O)
I like all those new trends. And yes, I think that color trends do impact scrapping. Every bathing suit at the pool this summer was some variation of brown and pink and I think I have probably 5 kits with those colors in them. That was a color trend I could have done without :)
Thank you for assembling this great resources. I have worked with the Fashion Trendsetter charts in my design work. Inspiring!
Fabulous post Hummie! I keep my eye on color trends for sure and I love visiting sites with color palettes :)
Hi Hummie:
I arrived at your site a few years AFTER the FACT but it proves the information you provided CAN withstand the test of time and continue to be useful. Thank you for providing your overview and the reference links.
At this point, re: early summer 2009, I am not sure who or what is dictating digital scrap color palettes but after moving through a few, seasonal cycles, I have noticed that some of the larger, digi scrap companies will come out with a new palette and MANY more will follow...to the point everything begins to look the same - so much so that it is possible to miss the unique sense of design being offered (oversaturation - no pun intended).
