Digital Scraproom vs. ACDSee - Battle over
I received an e-mail this week saying that Cheryl Meier was letting go of her software called Digital Scraproom in order to support ACDSee Photo Manager.
Finally, the battle is over.
When I first received the mailing, my thoughts were to get upset because I had purchased a program with a guarantee of lifetime upgrades which was no longer good.
Then I tried to focus on what the software designer must have been going through. She obviously could not have anticipated a bigger company's product taking over at the time she created her software. She was only answering a need that seemed to be screaming in the digital scrapbooking world. I was amazed that a "little guy" could even have the abilities to create such a program at all. I am sure she agonized for some time before making the decision. I am sure she has been under a lot of stress lately, worrying what the reaction would be. As I watched the forums and ladies continued to recommend ACDSee over the Digital Scraproom, I am sure it must have poked at her stomach each time she read them too.
Now that this burden is off of her shoulders, we can watch for what is new in store for us from this skilled lady. Where one door closes, usually another opens.
She is giving compensation for those who made the purchase by giving away 12 kits by offering a free subscription to the Monthly Kit Club on her site, as well as offering a 20% discount to purchase ACDSee. There is a coupon code on her site for 20% off.
I noticed that ACDSee also offers a Photo Editor. I watched the tutorial on the site as I was curious as to how it compares to Photoshop Elements. It is very similar to PSE, although I am not sure it will do everthing PSE does. For instance, I do not see layer styles or filters. But for the basic scrapbooker, it may be okay.
My first camera actually came with ACDSee.

Here is the official page for ACDSee. I see it is now Version 9 and I am wondering how much more it does than what my version does. I will have to download the free trial version and work through tutorials to compare the two before I make a purchase. Just something more to do, as always!
Also, I do like having a disk in hand for backup. I am just funny about purchasing software online. It may not be worth the $8 savings (20% of $40) and I may run out to Best Buy to pick up a copy of the program instead.
This also means now I will need to edit my Organizing Tutorial. At least now there are only two forerunners (the free program of Picassa vs. $40 for ACDSee). The choice now is a personal choice based on budget.
I took the time to find links to a collection of tutorials for ACDSee for your use (as well as mine).

I have never found the time to tag anything or play with any of the programs. Maybe now is the time for me to start.

Hi Hummie,
My sister & I have written a number of tutorials for both ACDSee Photo Manager & Photo Editor. And in January we started a website DigiScrapInfo.com where we provide support for ACDSee products as well as provide info on digiscrapping in general.
The tutorials can be found here:

and the forum is here:

Yep, I heard all about that!! I can tell you...ACDSee rocks and I love it!! It has cut my scrapping time in half and wouldn´t scrap without it now!!
Digiscrapinfo has some great tuts. and if you ever have questions I would post there!! Connie and Heide have made a great site there!! Those girls are awsome..
Have a great day!!
I'm really loving my ACDsee. I never tried the other program so I can't compare them, but ACDsee is worth the money too me. But then I'm one of those who has as much fun organizing my stuff as I do using it. (Ok, I'm weird, I admit it).
I am sorry to keep hearing about DigitalScrapRoom-- but perhaps is is a blessing in disguise. I am a big fan of ACDSee, and have found it to be very helpful to me as a digi-scrapper. Good luck and I really think you willlove the program.
