Collecting
I read something this morning that got me thinking.
I love to collect things. I have a doll collection from my youth, as well as a coin collection. I have a collection of snow globes.
Today, I realized that I am also big into collecting memories. I cling to memories. I have collected things of my grandparents that remind me of them. I have collected things of my ancestors to learn more about what makes me who I am. I do digital scrapbooking to collect memories. I enjoy genealogy to collect memories.
Why do I do this? What is my purpose in collecting memories? I will have to focus on those questions for myself.
I seem to run from one addiction to another. I am having so much fun digital scrapbooking that I am thinking about it all the time.
Addictions are okay unless they take your focus off of the Lord. It's like when someone puts t.v. over worship and makes t.v. an idol. Psalm 31:6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the LORD. Will you watch your favorite t.v. show or go to Ash Wednesday service tomorrow night? Of course, tivo makes that choice easy.
I need to watch myself so that I do not cling to my memories, but rather cling to the Lord. Which am I putting first?
Psalm 63:8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
